Indians across the world celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi on Thursday.

Gaiety Marks Ganesh Chaturthi across the World…reports Ragasudha Vinjamuri

A festive atmosphere prevailed at major Indian habitats across the world on Thursday as devotees installed Ganesh idols marking the first-day of the 11-day long festivities. Thousands of idols of different shapes and sizes were installed at specially decorated ‘pandals’ or makeshift platforms erected by various neighbourhoods. Preparations are on full swing at various locations in London.

Devotees also performed puja to the elephant-headed Hindu god in their houses. The markets were abuzz with activity as men and women bought flowers, leaves, fruits and other puja items. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday greeted people on the occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

“Ganapati Bappa Morya! Greetings on Ganesh Chaturthi. May Lord Ganesha bless us with abundant happiness and prosperity,” Modi said in a tweet.
