Paris flag colourA minute’s silence is to be held across Europe on Monday (16 November) at 11am (UK time), in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the series of terrorist attacks in Paris, France. The terrorist incidents, which took place on Friday 13 November, claimed at least 129 lives and resulted in widespread casualties.

As a mark of respect and expression of solidarity, all Whitehall government departments have lowered their Union Flags to half-mast.

Meanwhile, special forces have been deployed to some of the capital’s landmarks and busiest spots.

David Cameron said the terror threat level in the UK would remain at ‘severe’ but the Paris attack would prompt a review of plans and suggested the threat posed by ISIS was ‘evolving’.

“Our police and intelligence agencies work round the clock to do all they can to keep us safe,” said Cameron. “Ever since the co-ordinated firearms attacks in Mumbai in 2008, we have all been working together to ensure we could respond to such an attack. This Summer police and other emergency services carried out a major exercise to test our response for multiple firearms attacks.
