Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif who returned to the country from London on July 7, failed to reach Islamabad due to health problems.

Sharif could not travel to Islamabad from Lahore city due to an infection in his leg and fever, the News International quoted his spokesperson as saying.

The premier would travel to Islamabad after his fever subsides, the spokesperson said.

Sharif returned to Pakistan after 45 days in London where he went under an open heart surgery on May 31.

Pakistani politicians had called it an imprudent decision to leave the country at a time when opposition parties were exerting pressure on the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government in the wake of the Panama Paper leaks.

However, a PML-N officer-bearer said Sharif’s medical condition necessitated the visit.

Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Secretary General Jahangir Khan Tareen last week said the party’s preparations for launching a “massive protest movement” over the leaks soon after Eid ul-Fitr were in full swing.

An investigation published on April 3 by an international coalition of more than 100 media outlets — based on information drawn from the internal database of Panama law firm Mossack Fonseca — detailed how wealthy people use offshore shell companies to hide their assets.

According to the documents, Sharif’s children Maryam, Hasan and Hussain “were owners or had the right to authorise transactions for several companies”.
