Thousands of miles away, home away home, the British Marathi diaspora has celebrated with pomp and gaiety one of the most important events on the calendar, the Ganesh festival. The festivities were flanked by tradition, cultural showcases, VIP visits and entertainment….reports Asian Lite News

Maharashtra Mandal London is one of the oldest Indian community organisations outside India, established before the second world war. The charity was the first and the foremost to have started the 10 day traditional celebrations in the UK twenty five years ago, and has been successfully providing a platform for community cohesion and social interaction.

A variety of programs were held during the festivities. Deputy Mayor of London Shri Rajesh Agrawal, First Secretary Shri Ashish Sharma representing the High Commission of India, world famous artiste Shri Udayraj Gadnis were present on the occasion alongside other dignitaries such as President of Hindu Forum of Europe Mrs Lakshmi Vyas. More than 1000 audiences have had darshan of the deity and enjoyed the cultural programs over the weekend. The opening invocation was presented by stellar dancer Ashwini Kalsekar along with award winner Ragasudha Vinjamuri, in an interesting presentation titled Kathakanatyam.

The presentation showcased the nuances of both Kathak and Bharatanatyam on Ganesh arti Sukhkarta Dukhharta. Marathi bana included Natya Sangeet and Naandi, Lezhim, Govinda Aala. Manasi Joshi’s classical singing, Aditi Patil and Rujuta Singh’s Deva Shri Ganesha, dance presentations by Hardik Vaidya’s group and Nachiket Chandak’s group, a delightful dance ballet ‘Ekta ki Aawaz’ presented by members of Indian Women in London and Inspiring Indian Women depicting the integration of different communities were all well received by the attendees. Semi classical dance by Shivangi Gokhale on a famous Marathi composition was applauded. A two hour music bonanza by Amar Bansi has rocked Mandal during which celebrated artiste Shri Amar Oak has presented scintillating tunes on different types of flutes along with his team.

Bal Darbaar, a unique annual showcase by about 30 children included recitation, songs, dances and Vedic Yoga. Children have travelled as far as Kent, Sutton, Bedford and Milton Keynes to participate in this popular annual program. The 10 day celebration ends with Visarjan on 15th September.
