Baroness Sandip Verma, the senior most British Asian politician in the government, resigned from the front bench as Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for International Development….reports Asian Lite News

In a Tweet, the Baroness said she will continue her campaigns in fighting for inclusion and diversity and will do from the backbenches.

Baroness Verma, who recently completed 10 years on Front Bench, is involved in many international campaigns like support for acid attack victims in Bangladesh and the rehabilitation of earthquake victims in Nepal.

She is also mentoring several candidates from the ethnic communities to get into mainstream politics.

“It has been a great honour to have served my country as I leave govt. Worked with brilliant people,” the Baroness said in a Tweet.

Born in Amritsar in Punjab, India Baroness Verma moved as a child with her parents to England in 1960. She was created a Conservative life peer on 2 June 2006 taking the title Baroness Verma, of Leicester in the County of Leicestershire. Since 1977, Lady Verma has been married to businessman Ashok Verma. They have a daughter and a son.
