The University of Leicester would award five scholarships to its students to pursue their Masters from anywhere in the world.
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC), UK has granted five Commonwealth Distance Learning Scholarships to the University. As per the provisions of this scholarship, five students would be able to pursue MSc. in Risk, Crisis and Disaster Management.
Dr. Nibedita Ray -Bennett has won the bid for these five scholarships for the University of Leicester. According to her, “Commonwealth Scholarships are very special because they give opportunities to meritorious individuals from the Commonwealth nations. Scholars are able to read our MSc in RCDM without leaving their home country which maximises their potential to enhance the development of their home countries with the knowledge and leadership skills they acquire from Leicester.”
She is herself a recipient of several scholarships from the Indian government. Dr Ray-Bennett further states, “Hailing from a rural area of North Bengal, I have benefitted from such scholarships and fellowships from the Government of India and from the Ford Foundation for my entire higher education. They changed my life and I am certain that these Scholarships will change theirs too.”
The Scholarships would comprise academic teaching through correspondence, distance learning and residential learning. It would highlight the traditional division between the practical management of natural hazards through technical and social methods and developmental theories. This course has more than 130 students across the globe.
Those applying for the scholarships for 2016-17 need to fulfil certain criteria. They must provide a graduation certificate of first class honours degree or high second class honours degree. They must also present proof of their English language tests. The scholarship would provide for their course fees, laptops and other course materials and three visits to the school to attend lectures. Applications for this academic year would be closing shortly on May 3rd.
