An additional levy of £1,000 per employee per year will severely limit the ability of businesses, particularly SMEs who are the engine of growth, from keeping Britain at the forefront of the global economy…the Lib Dems said in  a statement

NHS HospitalLiberal Democrat Home Affairs spokesperson Alistair Carmichael, says the introduction of a £1,000 annual charge on visas, which will directly affect people working in schools, hospitals, and the ability to attract global talent to Britain,  said:

“On the one hand the Chancellor warns that the UK must do all it can to ensure that the economic storm clouds gathering don’t hit Britain. Yet the Home Office seem determined to close UK off from global talent.

“An additional levy of £1,000 per employee per year will severely limit the ability of businesses, particularly SMEs who are the engine of growth, from keeping Britain at the forefront of the global economy.

“Most staggering is this Government’s insistence on destroying vital public services. People are coming to work in our public services to fill incredibly important roles, and now the NHS and our schools will face this pointless, punitive and prohibitive charge.

“I would urge the Home Secretary and Chancellor to talk to each other and find a good deal for Britain.”
