New variety of rose has been presented to the Queen of Bhutan by the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge….reports Asian Lite News
The red flower, named the “Queen of Bhutan Rose”, was developed as a special gesture for the King and Queen of Bhutan, who founded the annual Royal Bhutan Flower Show last year and have created an English garden. It was presented by the Duke and Duchess in an audience with the King and Queen, in Thimphu.
The rose variety has been grown in the UK, funded by a private donation, and seventy-five dormant plants have been transported to Bhutan, where they are now being cultivated.
Minister for Asia Hugo Swire said: “I am delighted that Their Royal Highnesses have been able to present this rose to the King and Queen of Bhutan as a symbolic gesture of the growing friendship between our two countries.”
