UK cities celebrate Sri Sri 60 bday with pomp


London, Leeds and Manchester hosted Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s birthday and embarked upon huge plans to receive him in June, report Subhadrika Sen and Rahul Laud from Asian Lite

Excitement is mounting up in different cities of UK with Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s visit to UK slated in June. Devotees, well wishers, followers of the Art of Living Foundation recently gathered at different locations – London, Leeds and Manchester to celebrate Sri Sri’s birthday and share his stories.

In London the event took place at the Royal National Hotel in Russell Square.

The programme consisted of music and chanting (bhajans), and meditation. There was announcement for Sri Sri’s upcoming UK visit to the Royal Albert Hall on the 19th June, Sunday and events across other cities in UK.

There were also information desk regarding the tour and Vita Organics products, International Association for Human Rights (IAHV) 10KM charity run info and T Shirt Merchandising on sale.

As Ajaybhai Vyas,Trustee, board Member and Treasurer of AOL foundation UK, said in his opening remarks: “Those guests haven’t done the Art of Living programs or are here for the first time are our VIPs tonight!”

Excited Hina and Jagdish Pancholi, Directors of Vita Organics, said, “ We are really excited to welcome HH Sri Sri Ravi Shankar to UK! Manchester also celebrated the 60th birthday at  hepherd’s Farm in  Preston. The evening saw the coming together of around seventy people –young and old- to take part in the occasion. The event started with the Guru Puja chanting followed by a Satsang, where everybody took part in singing devotional songs; and meditation. The event lasted for about two hours and it was followed by a Satvik (Vegetarian meal).

Sri Sri is world renowned and travels to around thirty to forty countries each year to address corporate houses, parliaments and his devotees. This event not only celebrated his birthday but also introduced the first timers to the World of Yoga and meditation and the power of inner strength. Rachna Tulsian , Secretary of AOL North Regional committee announced that Sri Sri would be coming to the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester. It’s reported that after a hiatus of ten long years to address his disciples and audience in London, Manchester, Liverpool and Leicester. He has also been invited by PM Cameron and he will be speaking at the House of Commons.

Leeds celebrated with pomp and gaiety in the Hindu Temple in the city. Regular visitors to the temple also joined the unique celebration there. Followers and devotees of the Art of Living Foundation from neighbouring city Doncaster joined in large numbers. A grand musical session was conducted to celebrate the occasion. Doncaster resident Dr Ravi Karwa, Chairman of the AOL North Regional committee welcomed the guests , introduced them to the organisation and Sri Sri.
