Indian High Commissioner, Navtej Sarna visited the University of Oxford as the Guest of Honour during the Annual India Lecture. He also visited the Oxford Centre of Islamic Studies and Oxford Centre of Hindu Studies along with the Sommerville College. Indians form a very important part of the UK population. Indian students prefer to come to various colleges in the United Kingdom for higher studies. The University of Oxford is no less. It welcomes numerous Indians every year in various courses.

Mr Sarna was invited to the Annual India Lecture 2016. The theme for this lecture was An Undocumented Wonder – the Making of the Great Indian Election. The moderator for the event was  Dr S. Y. Quraishi, Former Chief Elections Commissioner of India.  The event saw the presence of various Indian dignitaries as well. It was followed by a reception and drinks.

At the event,  Mr Sarna brought out two very valid points in relation to Indian students coming over to study in the University. He spoke about the fact, that the quality of education was so high, that every year students went a step forward in trying to meet the financial ends just to be a part of such high quality academics. He also spoke about the difficulties one has to face while acquiring a student visa.

It was indeed an honourable moment for the University to host the High Commissioner of India to the UK on such a special occasion.
