As part of the year-long celebrations of India-UK Year of culture, the High Commissioner of India to the UK Mr. Y.K. Sinha and Mrs. Sinha hosted a grand reception at the Long Room of Lord’s Cricket Ground to commemorate,
and to revisit some of the highlights of the long-spanning and vibrant India-UK cricketing ties….reports Asian Lite News

Event to cement UK-India cricketing ties

The Year of Culture celebrations, announced by Prime Ministers of India and the UK during PM Narendra Modi’s memorable visit to the UK in November 2015, were launched at a glittering Reception at Buckingham Palace in February, 2017.

High Commissioner Sinha welcomed everyone to a cricket exhibition curated by National Science Centre, Mumbai of India and contributed by Lords Museum in the UK, which will be open at High Commission’s cultural wing – The Nehru Centre, till June 23, 2017. An abridged display of this exhibition on India-UK cricketing bonds over the years was also put up at the Reception.

The Indian cricket team led by Captain Virat Kohli and coach Anil Kumble, were present at the Reception. Also present at the Reception were senior members of the BCCI, ECB, and some of the cricket legends from both countries including Farokh Engineer, Mike Brearley, Dilip Doshi, Andrew Strauss, Monty Panesar and Anil Kumble.

During the Reception, eminent cricket commentator Ashis Ray also interacted with some of the cricketers present, and relived some of the most interesting moments of matches between the two teams over the years. High Commissioner also released earlier in the evening, a book on some of the highlights of this historic relationship,
titled ‘Cricket Connects’.

High Commissioner, in his address, welcomed the cricket team and former players to the evening, and wished the Indian and English teams the best during the ongoing Champions Trophy. He concluded by saying that cricket
formed, and will continue to be, a strong component of cultural ties between India and the UK.
