Indian Dances Enthral Oxford Carnival


Carnivals are extravagant events known for their exuberant dances, costumes, parades, floats and concerts, with a huge indulgence in food and beverage. Usually dominated by Caribbean-African-South American themes, this year a glass ceiling is seemingly broken….reports Asian Lite News

Classical Dance by Ragasudha Vinjamuri

Among fun, frolic and enjoyment, Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence and Sur Bharti women’s group have presented Indian Classical Dance, Marathi Folk Dance Koli and Bollywood moves to scores of audiences at Oxford’s Cowley Road Carnival. Spectators have immensely enjoyed Indian theme and flavour for the first time at the carnival. A Bollywood masterclass was also taken upon the request of the organisers which had people swinging and dancing to poplar Hindi songs.

While Ragasudha Vinjamuri has presented classical dance, participants in Folk and Bollywood dances include Ahana Ghosh Sikka, Moumita Bhattacharjee, Mona Jethwa Patel, Rashi Arora, Rashmi Lakhapate, Shivangi Gokhale, Suvarchala Madireddy and Sweta Kumar.

Other dances that were presented on the stage are Ballet, Tribal Belly dance, Contemporary and Fusion, Hip Hop, Street Dance, Jazz and Balinese dances, with Samba masterclass by Stagecoach Abingdon Dance Troupe,, Mims Bellydance, Expression School of Ballet Theatre Arts,  Messy Jam Dance Company, Ashnah Dance, Implexa Dance Company, Pegasus Street Dance Crew, Mini Professionals Dance Academy, Deva-OXONIS, Deddington Youth Dance Company.Cream Tease and Attitude Dance School.
