Sri Lanka New Year Day was celebrated recently by Janahanda Foundation in the UK at Feltham Community College. Celebrations included traditional games for children during the day and colourful cultural showcase in the evening….reports Asian Lite News
The event started with lighting of the lamp followed by the music and dance program and a fashionable beauty contest.
Several politicians and faith leaders and hundreds of members of public were in attendance at this vibrant celebration. Guests included the head monk of London Buddhist Vihara Bogoda Seelawimala Nayaka Thera, Dr Sumana Siri Thero, Fr. Daya Dharshana Perera, venerable Dharam Gurung from Nepal Temple in Hounslow, Sri Lankan Deputy High Commissioner Sugeeshwara Gunaratna, Feltham And Heston MP Seema Malhotra, Brenford and Isleworht MP Ruth Cadbury, Deputy Mayor of Hounslow Daanish Saeed, Cllr Jagdish Sharma, Cllr Khulique Malik, Cllr John Chatt, Cllr Hanif Khan, Cllr Bishnu Bahadur Gurung, Cllr Bandna Chopra, Akhil Biswas, Uday Kumar and Rani Gurung from Nepal Ladies Community. Indian Classical dance was presented by Shivangi Gokhale of Sur Bharti group which aims to empower women through artistic, educational, social and environmental initiatives.
