The London Book Fair has announced that a special Spotlight on India series of events will be taking place at the 2017 edition of the Fair….reports Asian Lite News
The UK-India Year of Culture follows the joint announcement in 2015 by both Prime Ministers of a bilateral initiative to mark the deep cultural ties and the 70th anniversary of India’s Independence; a commitment that was reiterated during Prime Minister Theresa May’s visit to India in November 2016. The Year of Culture is a year-long celebration of this partnership between India and the UK, and will see a vast programme of cultural exchange and activity taking place in cities across both countries.
The London Book Fair will be working with the Indian government’s export trade body Capexil to stage an exhibiting presence over three pavilions for nearly 40 exhibitors. The enhanced Indian exhibit at this year’s Fair will showcase the global importance of India’s publishing industry, in particular its digital innovation. Ingram Content Group, one of the participants in this year’s Spotlight on India, are in prime position to bring the huge potential of the Indian book market to a worldwide audience. - Renowned author Amit Chaudhuri in conversation in the PEN Literary Salon (5.15pm Wednesday 15th March)
- A Symposium on Indian Writing Today featuring discussions from a delegation of authors from the Sahitya Akademi, including Arundhati Subramaniam, Sri Yeshe Dorji Thongchi, Dr. S.L. Bhyrappa, Mr. Kula Saikia, Sri B. Jayamohan (12.45pm Tuesday 14th March, Apex Room, National Gallery, Hall 3)
- A session of readings by the Sahitya Akademi authors, titled My World, My Writing: Readings by Indian Authors (3.30pm Thursday 16th March, PEN Literary Salon)
- Shrabani Basu, author of Victoria & Abdul, in a discussion titled Indian Worlds: From Book to Screen (11.30am Thursday 16th March, Cross Media Collective Theatre)
