Britain’s opposition Labour party has selected Preet Kaura Gill to contest from Birmingham Edgbaston….reports Asian Lite News

Preet Kaura Gill, 44, a cabinet member on Sandwell Council, will stand in Birmingham Edgbaston. If she wins, Kaur will become the first Sikh woman in British Parliament. She was chosen by the party to replace Gisela Stuart, the former Labour MP, who has stood down.

Gill was born and raised in Edgbaston and is an active member of the Sikh Network, a network of Sikh activists an professionals. She was recently named as one of the 350 prominent Sikh women in the country.

Gill is also a member of the Jo Cox Women In Leadership training programme, set up by Labour in honour of the murdered Yorkshire politician last year.

Gill is facing a tough fight from Tories to defend a majority of 2,706.
