The Asian Wedding Industry’s annual Awards ceremony took place at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel, Where the industry’s leading names in the Asian Weddings came together to celebrate their achievements of the last 12 months, and to reward the best of the best….reports Asian Lite News
The wedding planners, photographers, card makers, to the caterers, venue dressers, filmmakers, hair stylists, makeup artists to toastmasters, were joined by celebrities and dignitaries to celebrate and acknowledge their successes.
The Gala Dinner now in its fourth year, hosted by Harpinder Kaur, of the BBC Asian Network , was joined amongst others by Talat Farooq Awan of the BBC, Harry Potter actress Afshan Azad, The Deputy Mayor of Oldham Metropolitan Borough, to announce and present 22 awards.
The Asian Wedding Awards celebrate and honor the people and businesses who make couples wedding dreams a reality, and rewarding their tireless devotion, creativity and inspiration, in what can only be described as a unique industry contributing around £1billion to the national and local economy.
The recipients of the Awards were; Accessories & Jewellery Supplier of the Year was awarded Sai Fashions (Jewellery), Banqueting Hall of the Year was awarded The Sheridan, Bridal Wear Designer of the Year was awarded to Alankar Sarees, Cake Company of the Year of the year was awarded to The Cake Gallery, Caterer of the Year was awarded to Desi Lounge, DJ of the Year awarded to Soulasia Roadshow, Filmmaker of the Year was awarded to SM Digital Weddings, Florist of the Year was awarded to Springbank Flowers, Finishing Touches Supplier of the Year was awarded to B Inspired, Grooms Wear Designer of the Year was awarded to Sherwani King, Makeup Artist of the Year was awarded to Nida Glamour World, Musician & Entertainer of the Year awarded to Desi Nach, Wedding Photographer of the year awarded Asia Burrill, Wedding Planner of the year presented to Payal Events, Stationery Supplier of the Year was presented to Ya Habibi Designs, Toast Master of the Year presented to Stephen T Sanders, Transport Supplier of the Year was awarded to Rolls Royce Chauffeurs, Venue & Stage Decorator of the Year went to The Wedding Fairy, and Venue of the Year was awarded to Thornton Manor.
The evening ended with two special judge’s awards The Penny Appeal Wedding Professional of the Year, this award recognises an individual in the industry who is dedicated to providing exemplary service as a matter of course, this year the award was presented to Vanessa Myers, of the Sheridan Suite. The Judges Award for Outstanding Contribution to the industry is given to an individual who has been at the forefront of innovation in their field and someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the Asian wedding industry in the region over the course of their career, this year the judges were unanimous in their decision to present the award to Mahboob Hussain from the Royal Nawaab Manchester, who took the leap of faith and transformed a old cinema into a wedding banqueting suite in Manchester and transform the way Asian weddings were celebrated.
The 2017 Asian Wedding Awards had over 400 nominations, which were shortlisted down to 110 finalists that were judged on elements including on customer service, creativity, dedication and commitment to find the 19 winners. The judges on the panel were Beverley Uddin Khandaker – Editor in chief of Didsbury Magazine; Talat-Farooq Awan – broadcaster and presenter of the BBC Manchester Indus Show; Umbreen Ali – Features Editor of Fusion Lifestyle Magazine; Rabbia Ali Shah – Editor of the Asian Wedding Ideas blog, Lorna Massey – Senior Sales Manager – Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel and Peter Aust, Fellow of Northern Guild of Toastmaster. The judges were overwhelmed with the level of entrants, and were moved by the inspirational stories behind them, and the impact they have on their customers.

The Awards were rounded off with special tribute to Tarla Somaiya of Payal Events & Robert Bell of Barkers Catering Equipment Hire, both of whom who passed away in the last 12 months, and were trailblazers in the Asian Wedding Industry.
