Chiragi’s charming Bollywood dance


Starting her Bharatanatyam (south Indian classical dance) training in India, Chiragi mastered the Rass Garba (Gujarati folk dance) and Bollywood Dance. Her first choreographic stint was at the age fifteen and by sixteen, Chiragi was pursuing her passion for teaching and performing Bollywood dance….writes Prof Geetha Upadhyaya

Coming to the culturally diverse city of Leeds in 2000, Chiragi wasted no time in setting up her Bollywood dance classes and her company British Indian Bollywood Arts (BiBa) which is proud to be the biggest and longest established Bollywood school in Leeds and north England.

Soon, Chiragi’s buzzing Bollywood classes, choreography and Bollywood fitness sessions in ten different venues were being attended by nearly 120 people every week. In addition, Chiragi also conducts dance projects in schools and colleges and being a qualified arts award advisor, Chiragi has helped many young people achieve nationally recognised arts awards qualifications.

Chiragi’s company offers various dance workshops, fitness sessions, professional choreography for TV shows, movies, music videos, private dance tuitions, stage shows and dance projects for all age groups.

She facilitates cultural dances and poetry for ‘Haqooq’ (Aspire for more), a registered charity and is committed to working with young people with profound to severe disabilities, challenging needs, autism and Asperger’s syndrome.

Chiragi and her team of dancers have performed on the biggest Bollywood stage and also an opening number for the concert of the famous Bollywood singer Shreya Ghosal.  She has also co-ordinated and performed for IIFA (international Indian Films Awards) the biggest Bollywood dance platform any choreographer can dream of and had the privilege of working with Shiamak Davar the biggest name in Bollywood choreography.

As a committee member and Cultural Secretary of the Leeds Hindu Charitable trust, Chiragi promotes cultural events and organise programmes for the community.

April 2018 will see Chiragi’s latest Bollywood Dance Production at Leeds Carriage Works Theatre and she is also busy choreographing for Bollywood Music Video which will be broadcasted worldwide on Asian television channels.
