Shekhar misses the ‘blissful voice’
Actor and talk show host Shekhar Suman recalled meeting KK during the shoot of his late-night talk show, ‘Movers & Shakers’. He also remembered him singing a mellifluous track from the 2014 movie ‘Heartless’, which had Adhyayan Suman, his son, as one of the leading characters.
He reminscised: “I had the opportunity of meeting him for the first time during the shoot of my show ‘Movers & Shakers’. He came across as a very nice, friendly and extremely talented person.”
He added: “When I was making my first film ‘Heartless’, I made sure one of the tracks was sung by him. He gave us such a beautiful song — ‘Soniye’. He also lent his voice to Adhyayan in the movie ‘Jashan’.”

Continuing his tribute to KK, Shekhar Suman said: “KK was an accomplished singer and had an illustrious career. It’s so hard to believe that he left us at the age of just 53, it’s such a young age. It’s an age to achieve and accomplish.”
He concluded by sharing the most common sentiment about KK’s passing: “It’s hard to believe that we are paying tribute to a singer who was performing enthusiastically till late last night and he is now gone. It’s hard to believe that we will never be able to hear his blissful voice again.”
Himesh recalls the ‘warm hearted’ human being
Singer and music director Himesh Reshammiya said the celebrated playback singer KK was a warm-hearted human being and his untimely death felt like a personal loss.
Asked about how he would like to remember KK, Reshammiya said: “KK was not only a great singer, but a very warm-hearted human being. You know we have worked together, so naturally, we have memories.”
He listed some of his timeless compositions that KK had sung: ‘Soniye’ from the film ‘Aksar’, ‘Bardaasht’ from ‘Humraaz’, ‘Tere Sang Ek Simple Si Coffee’, ‘Dilli Ki Sardi’, the title track of ‘Zameen’, and ‘Ishq Ne Tere Ishq Mein’ from ‘Ahista Ahista’.
“We have spent time at work together, we sang ‘No Way No Way’ from ‘Anthony Kaun Hai?’ and he also sang ‘O Jaana’ from ‘Tere Naam’ and many more. I will always miss him and his soulful voice,” Reshammiya told.
“There was always a beautiful smile on his face whenever we met,” the singer-composer said. “I remember the last time I met him, it was around a year ago at an airport lounge while coming back to Mumbai. We had performed in the same city just a day before we met at the lounge. We had a happy conversation that day and I just can’t get over the fact that he is not with us anymore.”
Reshammiya concluded by saying: “Sab khatam ho gaya … I am still shocked. He was a true legend and my heartfelt condolences to his family. I know that every music lover will truly miss him.”
Tributes pour in for beloved KK
From West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, her Delhi compatriot Arvind Kejriwal and Rahul Gandhi to well-known choreographer and director Farah Khan, actor Emraan Hashmi and former Test cricketer Harbhajan Singh, well-known personalities from diverse fields mourned the passing of the popular singer KK on Tuesday, May 31, in Kolkata.
Banerjee, in whose Kolkata KK breathed his last, took to Twitter to say: “The sudden and untimely demise of the Bollywood playback singer KK shocks and saddens us. My colleagues have been working from last night to ensure that all requisite support is given for necessary formalities, his rites and to his family now. My deep condolences.”
Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said in his tribute: “Saddened to learn about the untimely demise of noted #Bollywood singer #KrishnakumarKunnath popularly known as #KK. He will continue to live in the hearts of music lovers through his mellifluous songs. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family members, friends & fans.
Kejriwal tweeted: “Shocked to hear about the sudden demise of renowned singer Shri Krishnakumar Kunnath, fondly known as KK. His voice and songs will stay till eternity. My heartfelt condolences to his friends and family, and fans across the world.”
Mourned Hashmi: “A voice and talent like no other. They don’t make them like him anymore. Working on the songs he sang was always that much more special. You will always be in our hearts KK and live eternally through your songs. RIP Legend KK.”
Choreographer and director Farah Khan shared a throwback pic with KK on Instagram. She wrote: “You have gone too soon KK … u were so different and Real … in a super ambitious industry u stood out for your unfilminess … #realartist thank you for giving my films your iconic voice.”
Rahul Gandhi described KK as “one of the most versatile singers of the Indian music industry” and said: “His soulful voice gave us many memorable songs. Saddened by the news of his untimely demise last night. My heartfelt condolences to his family & fans across the world.”
Former Test cricketer and newly elected Rajya Sabha MP, Harbhajan Singh, said: “Devastated to know about sudden death of playback singer #KK. His soulful & melodious songs could easily connect with the hearts of millions of people. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and followers. May his pious soul rest in peace.”
