English actor Ricky Whittle feels Bollywood has made it big in Hollywood, and says there are lot of “beautiful” Indian actresses with whom he would like to share screen space with…reports Asian Lite News
“I would love to work (with Indian actors or in an Indian film). As an actor I just want to work with great actors and do great projects. I actually bumped into Dev Patel in Texas (sometime ago)… So, that is something I would love to investigate,” Whittle told.
“There are a lot of beautiful and fantastic actresses out there… Not just actors but directors and producers too. There are a lot of people with whom I would love to work with. I would love to visit India and work with them,” he added, without taking any names.
The actor, who is seen in “American Gods” — which became available in India on internet video-on-demand service Amazon Prime Video India from Monday — also finds Bollywood to be a huge culture in itself.
“Bollywood is quite huge in Hollywood. There are lots of fantastic Indian actors who have made it over in the space as well. With India, you bring this beautiful culture of fashion, music and food. We are not so sure about the movies and the things like that, but some of them (have made it big) in England and the States.”
Whittle, who has also featured in shows like “The 100”, “Mistresses” and “NCIS”, briefly visited India back in 2012.
“I stopped in Delhi for a few days in 2012… I was there with my family. It was very hot and humid. I wasn’t able to stay long but the country side was beautiful. I am a huge fan of Indian food… I would love to visit again and explore.”
At the moment, Whittle is in the news for critically acclaimed show “American Gods”. The fantasy show is based on a novel by Neil Gaiman, and presents a modern day take on Greek mythology about the power struggle between the traditional gods of mythological roots from around the world. Whittle stars as Shadow Moon.
What attracted him towards the show? The 35-year-old, who was born in Oldham, a town in England, says the story was the deal-breaker.
“The source material is Neil Gaiman’s incredible book – which is such an incredible read. I wasn’t aware of Gaiman at the very start and now I have realised that he is like a rockstar of the book world.
“Shadow Moon is a very complex and interesting character who goes on such a huge arc. When we meet him he is this broken empty character and then we watch him grow. For me, it was a challenge as an actor to kind of be able to embark on this journey with him,” he added.
