Dubai Ruler Donates 5 Million Books

To mark the Holy Month, Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed bib Rashid Al Maktoum launched ‘Reading Nation,’ a campaign to avail five million books for needy students in the refugee camps in and around the Muslim world…reports Asian Lite News

Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, launched Reading Nation, which will target the provision of five million book to needy students in the refugee camps in and around the Muslim world.

The campaign includes providing two million children’s book as well as to create a library to support educational programs and humanitarian institutions in the UAE.

“The first verse of Holy Quran “Read” was revealed in the month of Ramadan,” Shiekh Mohammed said . “The best thing closer we get him to God in this holy month is to apply the word “Read” through the distribution of five million book on refugees and the needy students. In some countries 30 children share one book.

A committee was formed under the chairmanship of Mohammed Abdullah Al Gergawi, Secretary General of the Initiatives Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Other members in the panel includes Reem Al Hashimi, Chairperson of Dubai Foundation, Mona Al Marri, Director General of the Information Office of the Government of Dubai and representatives from the UAE Red Crescent and Dubai Cares and the Bretton du Telecom and Abu Dhabi Media and Dubai Media Group Arab media national and international newspapers and humanitarian city and other participating institutions .

“There are about 10,000 schools in the Arab world do not have a library for students, said Gergawi. “There are millions of refugee children without educational programs and textbooks, and we will try during the campaign to fill part of this knowledge gap in the Arab and Muslim world.”#

Gergawi said  the campaign to provide five million book to the needy in the Islamic world will be launched with the participation of governmental and societal large and through the cooperation of many institutions to make it a success every year.

It will Etisalat and du allocation of toll-free numbers to donate to the campaign by individuals throughout the holy month, where the cost per book AED 10 also will be announced Bouquets for institutions wishing to participate in the campaign, where packages start from the provision of 50 thousand books and up to 500 thousand books at a cost of between half a million dirhams and five millions of dirhams.

UAE Red Crescent and Dubai Cares will also also receive donations through bank accounts and through dozens of branches and stations fundraisers throughout the UAE.

It also will be the Ministry of Education to establish events and activities to encourage students to donate books to their peers, where students will be shipped donations for their peers of children and students in the refugee camps during the holy month of Ramadan.
