As Adolf Hitler’s Nazism was coming to an end in Germany in the 1940s, an equally anti-people neo-Nazism had already emerged in undivided India and broke up the land of its birth in 1947. This neo-Nazism is the kernel of Mr. Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s Two-Nation theory on which he founded Pakistan as a “land of pure for Muslims” for at the cost of millions of lives in its wake. This theory is also referred to as Pak’s ideology.
Jinnah’s Two-Nation Theory reflects Nazism in many dimensions. It does not promote racism, but it propagates a move dangerously infectious communalism and sectarianism which, in its application, not only terrorizes non-Muslims but also hits at Muslim Umma’s unity and has made Muslims hate Muslims.
In his public speeches during the campaign for the creation of Pakistan between 1940, when he launched his Two-Nation Theory, and 1947, when Pakistan had been created, Jinnah poisoned the minds of simple Muslim masses against Hindus, who, he said must not be trusted. In support of his Two-Nation Theory, he made a very fallacious statement in Lahore on March 23, 1940. He said Hindus and Muslims had nothing in common between them. But he pleaded with Lord Mountbatten not to divide Punjab because here Hindus and Muslims had the same culture and traditions and they lived together.
While Hitler campaigned for the extermination of Jews in countries which Nazi had over-run, Jinnah, during his Pakistan campaign, poisoned the minds of his followers against Hindus but did not ask for their extermination. The Jews died once, but for lakhs of Hindus, who could not leave Pakistan following partition, it was life in death. Generations of not only Hindus but also of Christians, who spread literacy in Pakistan, have been reduced to illiterate menials living under death threat dangled before them by the Blasphemy Laws. Hindus live in constant fear of their young daughters being kidnapped and forcibly converted to be married to Muslim men. Lakhs of Christians and Hindus have fled Pakistan because of persecution.
Not only Hindus and Christians, but different sects of Islam in Pakistan have also been victims of the Two-Nation Theory induced hatred. One such example is the Ahmedyya Muslim sect. Ahmedyyas do not believe in the finality of the Prophethood of Mohammad and as such they are not considered Muslims under Pakistan’s law. They have always been victims of sectarian riots instigated by those who believe Pakistan was created in the name of Islam. But they don’t want to be reminded that Ahmedyyas had played a big role in the creation of Pakistan and Sir Zafarullah Khan, an Ahmedyya, was the right-hand man of Jinnah.
Another example of sectarian discrimination is the Shia community. Since the 1980s, there has been a Nazi-like Sunni campaign to exterminate Shias. Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, which has killed or maimed thousands of Shias in Quetta, has publicly declared that its mission is to exterminate Shias. The anti-Shia militants enjoy the support of Al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
Within Sunni community also, there are Deobandi and Barelvi sects who call each other “Kafirs”, often kill each other and burn each other’s mosques. Although their mutual hostility existed before the birth of Pakistan, the Two-Nation Theory emboldened them against each other.
Authoritarianism is one principle of Nazism which prescribes death for disobedience. The Pakistan Army follows this principle with some innovation. Hitler believed in instant death for disobedience. The Pak Army, which claims itself to be the custodian of Pak ideology, makes its targets first disappear, tortures them and then kills them, as has been happening in Baluchistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and also in Sindh. In 1971, the Army went trigger-happy in then East Pakistan and shot dead three million Bengali Muslims and drove out more than these from the country.
When Pakistan’s Governor-General Mohammad Ali Jinnah was alive his Army thought that the Two-Nation Theory would not be fully successful if Muslim majority Kashmir stays out of Pakistan. Although Kashmiris had rejected the Two-Nation Theory to join India, Pakistan attacked it in an attempt to grab it. Kashmiri leaders who witnessed that period have recalled the massacre of Kashmiri Muslims, loot and mass rape and kidnapping of young Kashmiri girls and women by tribals armed and sent by the Pakistani Army.
Unable to control country’s economy and administration, Prime Minister Imran Khan has started as a diversionary tactic; war hysteria against India after the Indian Parliament removed Article 370 from the Constitution and divided Jammu and Kashmir in two Union Territories. Pakistan and China are overreacting to it though it should not concern unless they have some ulterior designs.
To keep its people hostile to India, Pakistan has always been accusing it of conspiring for Akhand Bharat. Now Imran has gone a step further. He alleges that India is following the RSS’ Nazi inspired ideology in Kashmir. But, he claims it will not stop in Kashmir, it will lead to suppression of Muslims in India and eventually to targeting Pakistan. This theory is widely propagated in Pakistan to fuel anti-India sentiments.
Obviously Imran Khan is looking at the RSS ideology through the prism of the Two-Nation Theory, which as mentioned above, has been responsible for the killings of not only non-Muslims but more so far killings of Muslims-Shias and Sunnis both.
This theory has made hatred a compulsive trait of Pakistanis. Some years ago a foreign study said Pakistanis lose temper very fast. But this cannot be said about the people on the Indian side of the border though both have the same root and culture. The reason is the people on this side of the border are not affected by the Two-Nation Theory. See, Pakistan has been trying to woo Sikhs hoping to create some problems for India as it as it did in the 1980s. But the government strategy to woo Sikhs does not seem to find favour with Two-Nationists. For example, a nine-foot statue in Lahore of Maharaja Ranjit Singh, who ruled Punjab for about four decades in the 19th century, was vandalized recently. The suspects belonged to Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan. Now, one has to watch and see how safe will be the Kartarpur Corridor while Pakistan seethes with such ideology-stricken crazy organisations and individuals.
