Former Kerala Minister and senior Nationalist Congress Party legislator Thomas Chandy died on Friday, the party said. He was 72.

Chandy was the state president of his party. He was suffering from cancer and was being treated at a private hospital here when he breathed his last, a party official said.

The Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) who represented Kuttanadu constituency, also held the office of the Minister of Transport in the Pinarayi Vijayan ministry.

Before moving to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Chandy was with with the Democratic Indira Congress (Karunakaran) (DIC (K).

Chandy is survived by his wife and their son and two daughters.
