Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that State government will organise the maiden Loka Kerala Sabha (LKS), a high-level summit on January 12 and 13 in Thiruvananthapuram with 351 members comprising MLAs and MPs from Kerala and Representatives of Malayali expatriates in other Indian states and abroad.
The state government has conceived the Loka Kerala Sabha as a common platform for the cultural, socio-political and economic integration of non-resident Keralites with the state.
The 351-member Sabha, intended as a platform for formal discussions on Pravasi issues, will have a five-year term. The Sabha will be monitored by a committee headed by Chief Minister.
All the members of Kerala Legislative Assembly and members of the Parliament representing Kerala will be members of Loka Kerala Sabha. The government nominates 178 people as members. Of these, 42 are from non-state provinces in India, 100 from NRIs and six from overseas recipients. The remaining 30 members will be selected from the list of eminent personalities.
The government will also hold a meet in January to address the problems faced by the diaspora given the slowdown in the global economy and to rope in their support for key initiatives of the state government.
