The roar of 21 Sikh patriots of India has been heard once again: Megastar Akshay Kumar stars in one of the most highly rated films of the year that released recently on Holi 2019 and continues to make its mark on the box office collections, a war drama called KESARI. An epic period drama based on an unbelievable true story, KESARI released in cinemas worldwide through Zee Studios on 21st March 2019.
Starring Akshay Kumar, Parineeti Chopra, Bhagyashree, and Mir Sarwar, KESARI is a true testament to bravery, courage and heroism. The film tells the untold story of the British Indian contingent comprising 21 Sikh soldiers who were attacked by around 10,000 Afghans in 18th century India. The 21 Sikh soldiers decided to hold fort and fight with valour, for a battle which is considered as one of history’s greatest last-stands.
KESARI is directed by Anurag Singh and produced by Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, Sunir Kheterpal. The film is also co-produced by Amar Butala and written by Girish Kohli and Anurag Singh.
The film was shot on location at Wai in Maharashtra and Spiti Valley in India, with no expense spared in recreating the historic battle. Bollywood’s latest hits Gully Boy and Total Dhamaal had earned Rs 100 crore on Day 8 and Day 9 of their release, respectively.
Cashing in on the festival of Holi holiday weekend, the film had a smashing opening on March 21, earning a whopping figure of Rs 21.51 crore. It earned Rs 78.07 crore over that weekend, and reached Rs 100 crore on Wednesday on its week one mark. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted to say that Kesari is now fastest Rs 100 cr grosser of 2019.
