Prof Sobhan Vinjamuri

The British Nuclear Medicine Society has honoured Prof. Sobhan Vinjamuri with President’s Medal for 2020, a medal awarded to medics for exceptional contributions to the field of Nuclear Medicine.

Prof. Sobhan Vinjamuri has been leading the Nuclear Medicine service in Liverpool from 1998 and has served as a key leader in medicine locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. He helps international collaboration across the globe, especially with India.
He is the recipient of Vikram Sarabhai Memorial Oration Award, bestowed upon him at the 49th Annual Conference of Society of Nuclear Medicine, India (SNMI) in 2017. Prof. Vinjamuri served as the President of BNMS during 2016-2018, the first-ever medic of Indian background to serve the Society in that capacity. The 50th anniversary of BNMS was also marked under his aegis.

From its humble beginnings in 1966 with an informal discussion and a decision to form the British Nuclear Medicine Society, and its first formal annual meeting in 1972, the  BNMS evolved into a successful forum also for scientists, chemists, nurses and technologists and everyone interested in radioisotope studies.

BNMS hosted the European Association of Nuclear Medicine (joint SNME/ENMS Congress) in the Barbican London in 1985, the opening ceremony of which was said to have attended by former British Prime Minister Sir Edward (Ted) Heath.
