Hats off to Sophie! A vivacious 24-year old, Sophie was given unfortunate news from her doctors – cancer in 2010. Even after hearing this news, Sophie remained positive, up-beat and determined. She created a blog to raise awareness and money for Macmillan Cancer Support. Unfortunately, she passed away merely 16 days after her diagnosis.

Sophie’s ardent passion for fun and Bollywood music provided inspiration for the inception of BollyGOOD, a global dance routine held in honour of Sophie and the  lives of thousands of people who fight cancer every day. Through the years, BollyGOOD has reached over 10 different locations, 4,000 people and raised over £30,000 for charity. This year’s London events will be a celebration of living life in the moment and are forecasted to gather thousands of people at the following destinations:
25th July: Victoria Embankment Gardens from 3pm
26th July: Old Spitalfields Market from 1.30pm

Young ambassadors from the youth charity Teens and Toddlers will join thousands of Londoners taking part in BollyGOOD Dance-Off events.

Joanne Hay, Teens and Toddlers Chief Executive welcomed the involvement of the charity’s Young Leaders group. Speaking ahead of the event Ms Hay said: “We are thrilled to be part of this fantastic event. We hope it will help raise awareness of our work with young people who are struggling at school, as a result of low self-esteem or chaotic experiences. Teens and Toddlers helps young people in disadvantaged areas with a unique programme where teenagers get to mentor young children.

It helps them build their life skills to be the best they can be. BollyGOOD 2015 has given us a great opportunity to drum up support for our work, and the efforts of the young people we reach. We’re sure this year’s event will be a fun-filled occasion for everyone involved”.

The inspiration behind BollyGOOD came through a close personal friend of BollyGOOD’s founding member, Shamela. In December 2009, Shamela learnt that her friend, Sophie Parr had passed away of cancer just a few short weeks after she was diagnosed. Yet, in that time Sophie had started a blog (http://cupcakecurlsandchemo.blogspot.co.uk) chronicling her battle with the devastating disease and through that blog raised thousands of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

At her funeral, her friends and family discussed setting-up a Bollywood-themed event to celebrate Sophie’s life. Sophie was passionate about a diverse range of music and loved Bollywood music – she even organised a Bollywood-themed hen party for her sister. A couple of years later, Shamela decided to finally do something with this idea and BollyGOOD sprang into existence.
