British Prime Minister Boris Johnson greets the Muslim communities across the word on the occasion of Eid.Al-Adha- “I want to wish Muslims here in the UK and around the world the very best for Eid Al-Adha,” said Boris Johnson.
FULL MESSAGE FROM Prime Minister Boris Johnson:
As-salamu alaykum. I want to wish Muslims around Britain and across the world a happy and blessed Eid.
The past few months haven’t been easy for anyone, but for British Muslims first you had to observe Ramadan – normally such a social time – under lockdown and then many wanting to perform Hajj have had their hopes dashed due to the restrictions relating to the virus.
So I want to say a huge thank you for the sacrifices you have made and for all your heroic efforts. Literally, helping to save lives through social distancing, giving generously to those in need and looking after the vulnerable as you have through food donations and other help.
And of course the part played by so many British Muslims in working on the frontline of this pandemic. From the amazing doctors, nurses and NHS staff who kept on caring throughout the crisis – putting others first – and sadly, in some cases, losing their own lives. I want to thank the key workers in other sectors, the teachers, the police, care workers and those who kept our transport running.
And now as everyone looks forward to Eid al-Adha – which celebrates the Islamic values of duty and self-sacrifice- I urge you to keep up the excellent work with social distancing and limiting the number of friends and families in your homes and engaging in the test and trace process – if there are cases of coronavirus in your area – to help protect yourselves and others.
Of course – things will be different again this Eid al-Adha, including Eid prayers, but it is my fervent hope that you do get to enjoy the festivities and get some incredibly good things to eat.Let me wish all Muslims, here in the UK, and around the world the very best for Eid al-Adha
