East Shopping Centre, Europe’s first purpose-built Asian shopping mall, began its Christmas festivities when Sir Robin Wales, Mayor of Newham, switched on its Christmas Lights.

Crowds gathered as Sir Robin, along with Cllr Hanif Abdulmuhit and several other Counsellors, were welcomed into the centre by traditional dhol players, before counting down and lighting up East Shopping Centre for Christmas.

Sir Robin said: “East Shopping Centre is a fantastic new facility right in the heart of Newham. If you go there and look at the quality of what’s on sale, it’s absolutely stunning. It’s a great new facility that really does grace Green Street.”

Bob Popat, a partner at ACR Investments, the force behind East Shopping Centre said: “We are honoured to have the Mayor of Newham, Sir Robin Wales come and switch on our inaugural Christmas Lights at East Shopping Centre. As a new addition to Green Street, it’s wonderful to have the support of the local council and community. It’s been an eventful first year for us and we’re incredibly excited about the year ahead.”

Located in the heart of London’s iconic Green Street, East Shopping Centre opened its doors in March 2015, to thousands of eager shoppers who flocked to be a part of London’s latest shopping extravaganza.

East has also become a prime destination for wedding shoppers, and features a range of shops retailing everything from chic couture to everyday wear. The food court is also becoming increasingly popular within the local community.

The vibrant centre, which features custom-made fittings imported from across Europe, is anchored by The Souk. Designed to mirror bustling eastern marketplaces.

The impressive, high-quality shopping centre is built on a one-acre site of a former bus depot and hopes to build on Green Street’s important cultural heritage.
