The event saw a variety of cultural programmes and stalls offering handicraft, jewellery and food items attracting several members of public. It was initiated by the Chairperson of Croydon Hindu Council Mayura Patel last year and this is the second consecutive year that saw a big turnout.
Former Mayor Councillor Manju Shahul Hameed has inaugurated the event, attended by Dr Jagdish Sharma, Founder of Croydon Hindu Council and Mr Satya Minhas of Hindu Council UK. A prayer to Lord Ganesha was offered, followed by a Sitaar rendition.
The highlight of the event was the Dhol beats played by Maharashtra Mandal London group. It included the Lezhim display which attracted a huge impromptu participation from the audiences.
Dance choreographed by Ragasudha Vinjamuri for Sur Bharti members, dances by Gujarati Women in UK, Kuntal’s Dance Company and Sanskriti Guru were very vibrant, and so were other solo presentations.
The event was a great success and Croydon Hindu Council hopes to organise this every year. Vote of thanks was delivered by Mayura Patel who had been organising events and activities for Croydon community for almost three decades.
