The search is on for a next actor to play James Bond, as Daniel Craig is reported to have stepped down as 007, after he signed up for a role in a new US television series, Purity….reports Asian Lite News

Casino Royale - filmstill btinternThe series will run for 20 episodes a piece for several series which would leave the 47-year-old star very busy.  Speculation of this decision was on for a long time, especially in the wake of his comment that he would rather `slash his wrists’ than come back for another bond movie.

Craig’s displeasure towards the popular franchise was brought on by the difficulties involved in the last film, Spectre, where he had problems initially with the script, was injured on the set and needed knee surgery, and had to do reshoots after reshoots even after the movie was announced.

Daniel Craig was one of the most successful of James Bonds, where he played the secret agent for a decade in four movies. He was paid £7.38 million for Skyfall, making him the highest-paid Bond actor ever, and the film was the first Bond movie to break the one billion dollar mark.

After the success of Skyfall it was reported he brokered a deal to be paid £31 million for his next two 007 films, including Spectre, the 24th film in the franchise.

He is reported to have said that he would be happy if someone would just recognize him as Daniel Craig and leave him alone, than associate with all the fanfare Bond film franchise come with.

Speculation has been heavy on Luther star Idris Elba which sparked debate about whether there could ever be a black James Bond. In June last year, bookies reported heavy betting on Wolf Hall and Homeland star Damian Lewis as the next 007.  Other considered possible replacements for Craig include Richard Madden, Tom Hiddleston, Henry Cavill, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy.
