A new monthly poetry circle called ‘Mystic Moments’ is to be launched at Kala Sangam where a new poetry resource developed by the National Literacy Trust Hub in Bradford will be used as inspiration.
The poetry programme, ‘Our Stories’ has been developed in partnership with local poets, Bradford Museums and Galleries, Bradford Council’s Music and Arts Service and the Bradford Literature Festival. The initiative, which has already run in four schools in Bradford offers a range of opportunities for youngsters to explore the poetry genre, as well as writing and performance poetry techniques.
‘Mystic Moments’ is a new venture bringing together poets and performers to meet monthly on an informal basis to read and create new work with the eventual aim of encouraging young poets to read and publish their work as ‘Bradford Young Poets’. There will also be opportunities for the work to be interpreted through dance and music. The events will help extend the reach of the National Literacy Trust Hub in Bradford’s work to inspire a love of poetry in the community.
Nabeelah Hafeez who is leading the project is a young person from Bradford with a passion for poetry, literature and the arts. She has an MA in international development management and a desire to make a positive difference to local lives.
