Indo-Canadian singer/songwriter Kiran Ahluwlia won World Solo Artist 2015 for her album Sanata: Stillness….reports Asian Lite News

The winners of the 2015 Canadian Folk Awards were announced in Edmonton at the Citadel Theatre and Indo-Canadian singer/songwriter Kiran Ahluwlia won World Solo Artist 2015 for her album Sanata: Stillness which hit #3 WMCE in April of this year.

Other prize winners included Vocal Group of the Year Fortunate Ones (The Bliss); Contemporary Album of the Year went to Catherine MacLellan – The Raven’s Sun and World Group of the Year to Lemon Bucket Orchestra for Moorka. Arthur McGregor was recognized as the year’s Unsung Hero.

Kiran Ahluwalia said: ‘I’m very grateful for the Award – the seeds to open the boundaries of my genre were planted performing at Canadian Folk Festivals where I often had the opportunity to collaborate with musicians from all over the world.  This continues to greatly influence my style and enrich my music and life.’

2015 is the 11th Canadian Folk Music Awards Gala, a bilingual event hosted by award-winning artists Connie Kaldor and Benoit Bourque. The Gala featured live performances by Tequila Mockingbird Orchestra, Jeffery Straker, Trent Severn, Mélisande [Électrotrad], Pharis & Jason Romero, and John Wort Hannam.
