The Labour Party juggernaut crushed and wiped out the remains of Liberal Democrat party in the city. All nine of Nick Clegg’s councillors were lost lost against the Labour nominees.

In the city centre former mayor Elaine Boyes lost to Labour in a landslide that knocked her party into fourth, behind the Greens and the Conservatives.
Council leader Sir Richard Leese admitted the party now needs to tread carefully in order to avoid abusing public trust, the Manchester Evening News reported..
“The Manchester electorate have put real trust in the Labour Party and we need to make sure that we keel really close to the electorate and we need to make sure that we work with them and that we continue to deserve that trust.”
In Moston, the bastion of BNP in the city, UKIP candidate lost for just 137 votes.
The anti-EU party also came second in Ancoats and Clayton, Baguley, Brooklands, Charlestown, Crumpsall, Gorton South, Woodhouse Park and Higher Blackley.
