Diwali celebrations at Trafalgar Square in London

I love London. Our city is more safe, more prosperous, more open than most places around the world! But that is no consolation for a parent who has lost his child to knife crime. London, today is a cesspool of acid attacks, burglaries, sex offences & knife crimes. If there is anything we learned in the last few months it is that nowhere is safe.

The figures are appalling. With 137 homicides last year and 25 by the time it’s spring 2019, the city is fast turning into a dangerous Capital. Crime figures are at their worse level in the last ten years. The Murder rate is up 44%, a 23% increase in gun crime and 21% rise in knife crime. These are threatening statistics.

What on earth is going on, millions of Londoners are asking? Parents of the young & innocent killed mercilessly on the streets of London need more than just media coverage. They need answers.

And Sadly, Sadiq Khan the Mayor of London; the elected guardian of Londoners has nothing but an eye roll!

It’s like a mother being asked about her children failing at school & her blaming the gardner. Absurd. He has hundreds of excuses for the despicable condition the city is in. From funding cuts to schools not doing enough to poor scrutiny at City Hall.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan at Golden Temple

Mr Khan refuses to take responsibility or take charge of the situation. Like a child blaming his siblings for the lost homework he never intended to do in the first place.

How can someone who constantly shifts blame be capable of changing lives? He has no faith in himself, his policies, his future let alone Londoners having any faith in him?

Something must change. First, Sadiq Khan needs to stop blaming everyone around him.

Second, he needs to stop closing key police stations. For example, the closing of Uxbridge police station is a huge mistake. For God’s sake, Hillingdon is a large borough with a high crime rate. How on earth can the one station left in Hayes deal with all the crime?

Third, he should start allocating funds correctly. His mismanagement of funds makes my twelve-year-old cringe let alone Assembly members. Shaun Bailey the Conservative Party incumbent for Mayor of London next year and a GLA member had proposed changes in the budget that could have seen more than one thousand front end police officers on the streets of London. Sadiq Khan declined to accept the changes.

Fourth, The PR mechanism and self-promotion by Sadiq Khan needs to stop. Well, he is Sadiq Kardashian. Which politician goes on a holiday being whisked through security? Mr Khan you are a ‘community leader’ not a Hollywood starlet. And please stop putting your face & name out everywhere – TFL adverts. Wonder who is more self-obsessed you or Donald Trump.

Fifth, And lastly have some empathy man! Your London Plan of achieving housing targets is killing people in Brent & Harrow. I know of residents who find the utter chaos going on in the name of development in Wembley horrific!

The inept Labour council in Brent under your guidance plans to build structures around St Luke’s Hospice. These people are dying. And they do not care about your regeneration projects. They need empathy.

Brent has about 325,000 residents today projected to increase by 32,000 in ten years. Because of all the unplanned developments, you might succeed in housing them all.  However, what about the schools, healthcare & policing.

Kanwal Toor

This is a ticking time bomb. We the residents of Brent & Harrow must ask for answers. Now. And if we get an eye roll!. Show Sadiq khan the door. Enough is enough.
