London Qawali Night is one of the biggest and most exclusive musical nights in London. It’s an annual celebration of mystic genre of Sufi music which brings together people from across the UK. Qawali for the Sufis of Pakistan and India is a musical form to deliver a divine message and is food for thought and souls for those open to experiencing its magic and aura.
The art of Qawali remains a fundamental pillar in society through the ages. Qawali today is universally accessible through digital media. This can sometimes deprive it of the mystical character of traditional Qawali which relies on the spatial-temporal atmosphere within which it is sung.
Therefore, Qawali nights organisers Asjid and Shahbaz Khan have made it their mission and pride to bring people together in UK once a year to enjoy a night of pure ecstasy filled Sufi music. It started off as a small student event at SOAS and now this is their fourth year of organising what is now known as one of the biggest Qawali Nights in London.
This year’s showcase is all about the unmatchable Hussain Brothers. Their passionately devotional music is a leading representation of Qawali in the U.K. with their rich rhythmic grooves, soaring vocal melodies and the sheer intensity of their live performances, Hussain Brothers urge us to lift our hearts in exaltation and devotion to the Divine.
