London to host Ordination Ceremony for Calvin

London’s St.Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, will host a holy ceremony on Sunday, 7th May. Calvin Poovathur will be the first from the new generation to attain priesthood by Dr Mathews Mar Thimothios, Metropolitan (Diocese of UK, Europe & Africa)

This is the first ordination event to be held in the UK in the history of Malankara Orthodox Church. He is a member of St. Gregorios Indian Orthodox church parish in Belfast, Northern Ireland part of UK, Europe and Africa diocese of Malankara Orthodox Church.

Mr Calvin studied at Fort Hill college Lisburn and pursued his MBA degree from University of Greenwich, London. He later joined the Orthodox Theological seminary at Kottayam, Kerala, South India to undertake priestly and theological training programme.

He is the son of Mr. Jaison Thomas Poovathur and Lini who presently resides in Belfast. Miss. Rima is Calvin`s only sister .The family hails from Poovathur House, Elamannor in Adoor, Kerala, South India. Their parish is St Thomas Church, Elamannoor which is part of Adoor-Kadambanad Diocese.

The ordination holy ceremony will be on Sunday7th May 2017at St.Gregorios Indian Orthodox Church, Cranfield Road, Brockley, London. SE4 1UF. Morning Prayer begins at 9.00am followed by the Holy Qurbana and Holy Ordination Service.
