Virendra Sharma MP for Ealing, Southall has committed to support those fighting against malaria. this deadly yet curable disease consumes thousands of lives each year and with a little caution, one can manage to get out of its clutches. Thus, on the world Malaria Day 2016, the labour MP attended an event on malaria, its awareness and precautionary progress.
The event was hosted by the All Party Parliamentary Group on Malaria & Neglected Tropical Diseases and the UK Malaria Advocates, a network of civil society organisations committed to inspiring UK support and action to save lives . some other groups that supported the event included names like the Malaria No More UK, Malaria Consortium, IVCC, Medicines for Malaria Venture, FIND and the PATH Malaria Vaccine Initiative. the event hosted more than a hundred guests who supported in the fight against Malaria.
Virendra Sharma MP said:“Malaria claims over 1,200 lives every day or over 400,000 lives every year –the vast majority are young children, It costs less than a cup of tea to save a child’s life from malaria (£1 to treat and £5 to protect), no parent anywhere should lose their child to a mosquito bite”
The main agenda of the event was to find out more about malaria, and the progress of various researches in this field. The scope of reducing child deaths due to malaria was also discussed and an appeal was also made to the Global fund to get more finance in hand for being able to support organisations in their fight against this deadly disease.
