Manchester Muslim Jewish Forum members visit Manchester Grammar School and addressed over 600 boys in the assembly…..reports Asian Lite News
The visit is to mark the eigth global “Season of Twinning” between Muslims and Jews initiated by the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding in New York. Forum Co-Chair Heather Fletcher and Forum Executive Committee member Qaisra Shahraz were among the visitors.
This initiative is taking place from early November until early December in 20 countries. The theme was “We refuse to be enemies”
Qaisra spoke about the importance of “Twinning” and emphasised to the boys the need to challenge religious hatred whenever they encounter it.
Heather spoke about the many varied interfaith activities she has been involved in organising in the past decade which have helped build bridges between the Muslim and Jewish communities in Manchester.
It was especially pleasing for Heather that her nephew, Max Jacobs, was amongst the boys in the assembly. Qaisra’s nephew, Adam Bhatti, also attended. After the presentations the speakers and the boys chatted informally and shared pitta bread and hummus emphasising the other message of the day “Spread hummus not hate.” #WeRefuseToBeEnemies
