High Commission of India, celebrated Onam, the harvest festival of India, at India House with a medley of fantastic performances by India House staff and people closely associated with the High Commission….reports Asian Lite News
The High Commissioner inaugurated the event by lighting the traditional lamp along with senior officials of the Mission. The beautiful Onapookalam was solely designed and decorated by Mr. Ramjith R.
The celebrations commenced with the traditional Kaikottikali performed by ladies staff from different wings of the Mission; Anu Ansil, Aparna Sharma, Malarvizhi, Upma Sharma, Prabha, Gayatri Challa, Sonam, Ratnamala Charamchalla, Ceema Harish, Valli Nagappan, Pushpa Mohan and Sapna Surendranath-Sharma. Then the Antakshri winners of India House, Deepti Dhabalia and Gayatri Iyer sang a medley of Bollywood songs representing various regions of India.
Following this a Fusion Dance with songs in Tamil, Hindi and Malayalam was performed by Barking Kerala Cafe Group comprising of Ranjitha Sujith, Jumi Joseph, Rithika J, Renjitha R, Reshma K, Aparna N and Anju.
Eight-year-old Laxmi sang a soul rendering Sri Krishna Bhajanam in Malayalam. A brilliant Bharatnatyam duet was choreographed and presented by Mrs. Mridha Shankari and Mr. Vinod Nair, directors of Soorya Academy of Arts with dance pieces of Pushpanjali and Sri Ramachandra Kripalu Bhajamana. Ms. Surjeet Kaur sang a beautiful Gazal in Hindi.
The graceful Kalamandalam Sruthi presented Mohiniattam weaving emotions of love, happiness, joy, beauty, values, aspirations and myth. The audience enjoyed the energetic Thithitharo Thithithai Vallampattu, the Kerala Boat Song by menfolk comprising of Warrant Officers Rajesh Nair and Vineeth and Ramjith R from High Commission along with Linesh T, Sujith Kumar, Anish K, Abin K, Jijeesh A, Arun and Sreejith P from Barking Kerala Cafe Group. Lastly Sree Krishna Leela with garba was performed by ladies of the India House Club including AnuAnsil, Aparna Sharma, Malarvizhi, Gayatri Challa, Sonam and Ratnamala Charamchalla.
A sumptuous Onam feast courtesy Mr. T Haridas was the highlight of the evening.
