Blair said it is his ”mission” to persuade Britons to rise up and change minds on Brexit. he urged ” a way out from the present rush over the cliff’s edge”, BBC reported.
” I accept that people voted for Brexit and their will should prevail. But I also recommend looking again at Brexit when we have a clear sense of where we are going. All I am saying is a very very simple thing, that if a 52% show real change of mind we should have the opportunity to reconsider it. Whether you do it for second referendum or another method, it should be done. It’s time to start debating it and as it is the most important decision taken post second world war debate can’t now be shut down about it”, Blair added.
But Tony Blair’s comments drew flak from several pro-Brexit leaders include Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson, former UKIP leader Nigel Farage and former Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith, BBC reported.
Boris said ” I urge the British people to rise up and turn off the TV next time Blair comes on with his condescending campaign”.
Iain Duncan Smith, who was a prominent leave campaigner said Mr. Blair shows the political elite is completely out of touch with the British people.
Nigel Farage described as Mr. Blair as a ” former heavyweight champion coming out of retirement” who would ” end up on the canvas”.
