This year during the forthcoming Ganesh festival, Indian vocal music lovers are in for a treat with Pt Shounak Abhisheki ‘s ”Swarabhishek” coming to UK, reports Rahul Laud
GaMaBhaNa Leicester, London’s Croydon Marathi Circle, and North East England Marathi Association team from Newcastle have teamed up to present to the Marathi as well as to the classical and semi classical music loving audience in UK an exclusive series of vocal music concerts by Pt Shounak Abhisheki in the forthcoming month of September this year.
Shounak will be accompanied by one of UK ace tabla players Saleel Tambe and travelling from India will be Uday Kulkarni who will render able support on harmonium.
Pt Shounak Abhisheki is the son and disciple of Maestro Pt. Jitendra Abhisheki, Shounak is a vocalist who combines Agra and Jaipur styles of Hindustani Classical Music. Abhisheki is trained under Smt. Kamaltai Tambe of the Jaipur Gharana. In UK his
concerts coincide with the Lord Ganesha Festival will include different genres like Hindustani Classical, Semi classical, Natyageete, (theatre related music) Abhang (devotional music) and Bhaavgeete (light music).
Events will be held at
GaMaBhaNa (Leicester) 8th September at
North East England Marathi Association at
Newcastle on the 15th September and at
Croydon by the Croydon Marathi Circle on 16th September
Pt.Shounak Abhisheki has carved a niche for himself , gaining prominence as an exceptional vocalist in the field of Indain Classical Music. Shounak’s presentation of Khayal is an aesthetic blend of the Agra and Jaipur styles of Hindustani Raag Sangeet. A keen understanding of the nuances and intricacies of music coupled with the stylistic techniques imbibed by him, have lent a unique texture to Shounak’s music.
Endowed with a voice capable of manifesting intensity and emotion together, enhanced with his striking diction, Shounak likes to explore new dimensions in music, shouldering his father’s musical legacy. His aesthetic approach towards the lyrical content and his keen sensitivity towards the emotive aspects of a composition, gives his performance universal appeal.
Shounak is equally proficient in several other genres of Indian music which he performs with élan through thematic presentations like SWARABHISHEK, TULSI KE RAM, KABIR, SANTAWANI, ABHANGWANI predominantly based on his father’s compositions.
A regular performer at major music festivals in India, Shounak has also toured extensively overseas for a series of concerts in USA, the UK, the USSR, the Arabian Gulf, Thailand, Bhutan, South Africa, Europe etc. He has been recorded by reputed recording companies like Times Music, Sony Music, Music Today, Ninad Music, EMI to name a few.
Santosh and Supriya Deshpande whose brainchild has been these concerts represent GaMaBhaNa at Leicester which is a social community initiative started by like-minded passionate people.
Explaining the event Santosh said , ”We organise very special musical or theatrical events in the UK and donate any proceeds after costs (if we charge people to attend) from the events to chosen charities like MindUK, Balkalyan Sankul in India among others .
