We in the West are complacent of the fact that our governments will take care of us if we are out of a job or fall sick or when we retire. Imagine now our fellow Indians will have the same facility and will have the same sense of security which we feel in the West….writes Taha Coburn-Kutay
As the Indian Diaspora all over the world has been following the biggest election in the Democratic world, India. We have seen Rahul Gandhi mature into a great politician and employ the narrative of the great Mahatma who fought for the freedom of India from the British without any violence. Mr Gandhi with the manifesto of the Congress has proven that theCongress is thinking of India and its overseas citizen than dividing them in caste creed or religion.
The Congress manifesto is talking about the development of India at a scale which has never been seen or heard before. The introduction of the NYAY scheme will give the poor of India what we in the west call support form the Government in the form of benefits. I can only imagine the people in India who will benefit from this scheme and it will change their lives forever. We in the West are complacent of the fact that our governments will take care of us if we are out of a job or fall sick or when we retire. Imagine now our fellow Indians will have the same facility and will have the same sense of security which we feel in the West.
Rahul Gandhi and the Gandhi family has been accused and abused by many but this time the bar has been raised to a level which is unprecedented. The opposition has dared the Congress to fight the current elections last two phases on Martyred Rajiv Gandhi. The response from Rahul Gandhi has made many think, that this is the exact same way in which Mahatma Gandhi would have responded if he was still alive. Rahul Gandhi responded to the opposition by saying that their will only be love which will evolve out his heart for the brutality shown towards him and his family. This act of a non-violent reply has only been applauded by the population of India and worldwide. This response has shown that Rahul Gandhi has matured in to a brilliant politician and is marching in the foot steps of the Father of the nation, which was non-violence. Rahul Gandhi doesn’t use a language which is instigating, abusive, degrading or derogatory towards a party or an individual. This reminds everyone of Mahatma Gandhi when everything negative was hurled towards him, the response from the Great Mahatma was only positive which in the end earned India its freedom from the British.
Are we going to experience and see the same thing repeated in the form of Rahul Gandhi in getting India freedom from the divisive, instigating, abusive and derogatory politics which has engulfed India. Today the divide created between caste, creed, religion and gender is not what is expected from the largest and the fastest growing country in the world. We will have to wait and watch what election results bring out for India on 23rd May 2019.
I wish every Indian in India or abroad the best of luck, hope and pray that sanity prevails in this great nation which is India.
