The 3-day London Sharad Utsav’s Durga Puja celebrations, dubbed the biggest in Europe, ended at Ealing Town Hall….reports Asian Lite News
About 8000 people attended the festivities. It was inaugurated by Virendra Sharma, MP for Ealing and Southall and included vibrant cultural programmes, delicious Kolkata Street food, exhibition of art and crafts, and various stalls.
Congregational worship took place to the huge deity of Goddess Durga at Nelson Hall. Highlights of the program included Kathak by Anashmita Saha, Sufi rendition of Kathak by Sinjini Chakraborty, Rabindra Nritya by Pritidipa Barua and Bharatanatyam presentation titled Shakti by Ragasudha Vinjamuri and students of Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence, besides songs by Shahana Bajpaie. The Bijoya evening had singer and Minister of State for Urban Development, Government of India Babul Supriyo as special Guest of Honour. Samya Karpha compered the show.
Aligning with its objectives of promoting crafts and craftsmanship and moral and spiritual welfare of the community, LSU had hosted other events at the Nehru Centre including Roop Katha- The Folk Art of India and Tagore-East meets West and Saraswati Puja at Ealing Town Hall in January this year. LSU had also held Cricket Utsav tournament in 2014 at the Shepherd’s Bush Cricket Club. In India, LSU supports the cause of underprivileged children in West Bengal, particularly in Sundarbans area.
