Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell along with Labour activists, supporters and members from all across London came to show their support for Mr Sharma, the most affable British parliamentarian of Indian origin …. Reports Asian Lite News
The exit of Keith Vaz makes Virendra Sharma the most senior Indian-origin politician in British parliament. The arrival of Labour big wigs at his campaign launch event at Ealing Southall indicates the importance the party is giving to affable Sharmaji.
“Lets come together, stand together and campaign together for a Labour victory,” Mr Sharma said at the event. “Whatever our differences they matter less than winning a Labour Government, and I will always be an MP for all of Ealing Southall, for Southall, West Ealing, Elthorne and Northfields.”
Mr Sharma was first elected as a Labour MP in 2007 at a by-election, and served for more than 25 years as a councillor in Ealing before that. He worked as the BAME Officer for the Labour Party at the 1987 and 1992 General Elections and is seeking re-election on 12th December as the MP for Ealing Southall, having been elected in 2007, 2010, 2015 and 2017. Ealing Southall is one of the safest seats for labour in London.
John McDonnell, Shadow Chancellor of the Exchequer, formally launched Sharmaji’s campaign by assuring the Labour government will fix the broken system in Britain.
Cllr Fay Block introduced everyone and spoke about what was at stake in this election, Cllr Munir Ahmed spoke about the part Mr Sharma has played in bringing the community together and in shaping our local politics for many years.
Mr McDonnell then took to the stage and delivered a tub thumping speech that had the room on their feet in support about the transformational role a Labour Government will have and then Mr Sharma thanked everyone, including his family for their support and outlined his hopes for Ealing Southall, from Northfields, Elthorne, West Ealing and all of Southall, and how the community could achieve real meaningful change by working together,
“When we work together as a community there is nothing that can stop us, as a movement we are unbeatable but as individuals we will fall against the force of the far-right in this country, sowing division and working to end our history of socialism,” said Mr Sharma. “ As a Labour MP I have always stood up for what is right, and those in need against those seeking profit, I am a progressive and the investment we will make in government will properly fund our classrooms, our hospital wards and our green new deal.”
Activists, supporters and members from all across the constituency and around West London came to show their support for Mr Sharma. With the Campaign Launch Virendra Sharma’s Campaign HQ will now be open every day from 10am-7pm for the entirety of the campaign, volunteers are welcome every day to help secure a Labour victory in Ealing Southall.
