A speech delivered by Dr Shashi Tharoor goes viral.  In the video Dr Tharoor argues why Britain owes reparations to India for 200 years of colonial rule. He spoke of the impact of colonialism on the Indian economy and how India’s share of the world economy dropped from 23% to 4% as a result of British rule.

Dr Tharoor’s team contains Henna Dattani, a member of Secretary’s Committee and first year student at Brasenose College, Ssuuna Golooba-Mutebi, a member of Standing Committee and first year student at St John’s College., Mr Aloun Ndombet-Asamba, a Jamaican lawyer, politician and diplomat.

Sir Richard Ottaway, the Chair of the Foreign Affairs Committee, William Roger Louis CBE FBA, American historian of the British Empire, is the editor-in-chief of The Oxford History of the British Empire and the former President of the American Historical Association, and Professor John M. MacKenzie, British historian of the British Empire, argued against Dr Tharoor.
