Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi discussed efforts to resume the Middle East peace process with Foreign Ministers of Jordan and Palestine.

During a meeting in Cairo on Saturday, Sisi affirmed to the Jordanian and Palestinian foreign ministers that his country will continue its tireless efforts to solve the Palestinian cause, Egyptian Presidential spokesman Bassam Rady said in a statement.

Sisi also stressed the importance of uniting Arab and international efforts to revitalize peace negotiations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides, in parallel with efforts to achieve national Palestinian reconciliation, in order to promote the path of achieving the desired peace, Xinhua news agency reported.

Meanwhile, the Jordanian and Palestinian top diplomats appreciated Egypt’s relentless efforts to solve the Palestinian cause and establish an independent Palestinian cause, the statement said.

Earlier in the day, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Jordanian and Palestinian counterparts Ayman Safadi and Riyad al-Maliki met in Cairo where they discussed methods of reviving the Middle East peace process and resuming negotiations between the Palestinian and the Israeli sides.

The Ministers also stressed the necessity of urging Israel to return to the negotiation table in order to reach a settlement based on the UN-proposed two-state solution, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis have been stalled since March 2014, after nine months of US-sponsored talks that failed to make a breakthrough.

Egypt and Jordan already have peace treaties with Israel, which has recently managed to sign peace and normalisation agreements with other Arab states including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Sudan and Morocco.
