Chief Scout for India and eight-time world record holder Dr Sandeep Marwah spoke recently at a virtual event organised by London-based Sanskruti Centre for Cultural Excellence, in association with Rootskills. The session began with the welcome song “Swaagatam” melodiously rendered by Voice of India and Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs fame Aratrika Bhattacharya. She is the great-granddaughter of acclaimed Bengali singer Shri Jatileswar Mukhopadhyay.
Dr Marwah has been nominated by 60 governments, through Presidents, Vice Presidents, Prime Ministers, Deputy Prime Ministers or through Diplomatic missions and MPs as their Cultural Ambassador, and is the recipient of more than 800 awards from different parts of the world. As Chancellor of the first film university of the country, with students enrolling from more than 100 countries to attend 60+ courses at AAFT, he also shoulders a big responsibility to promote and propagate arts including music recitals, theatre arts, painting and sculpture exhibitions.
Recollecting his own journey from 1986, Dr Sandeep Marawah reiterated that one must be attached to art and culture, which teaches all to be compassionate, kind and lovable. He highlighted the first professional studio of North India Marwah studios’ extensive engagement as a platform for art and culture, with Theatre, Dance, Drama and Music as his own personal base and inclination. He has also highlighted how through a 100-acre complex of NOIDA Film City with 16 studios, 350 channels broadcasting to more than 100 countries, several thousands are earning bread and butter by being employed in the creative arts field.
He indicated that good intention, hard work, honesty and deep-rooted desire to contribute matter in the artistic journey, and has underscored on how cultural engagement leads to peace and larger cooperation across societies and nations. “Art and Culture should stop getting second preference when compared to professional streams of law, engineering and medicine”, he quipped. Commending the work of Ragasudha and Bhavisha in promoting Indian culture and matters of significance far and wide, he said he was happy to announce on the platform of Sanskruti Centre that Art and Culture tourism would become a big phenomenon globally within 5 years.
He said he hoped for a lot more to happen once pandemic went away in about 6-8 months.Interspersing his delivery with amazing poetic renditions on Gurus, Theatre Arts, polishing of calibre through training, commitment and focus, he emphasised on tapping the youth segment. As part of his responsibility as National Chairman of Media and Entertainment Upgradation Committee, he threw light on how he is making sure to bring various aspects of culture and cultural exchanges to screen, radio and print media for the society, and how organisations must host monthly cultural activities in terms of music and dance recitals or art exhibitions, so that it creates a means of income and engagement for artists.
Interacting with attendees at the event, he has further explained about the time commitment and team-building required to achieve desired goals. The session ended with Vote of Thanks by Ragasudha Vinjamuri, Founder of Sanskruti Centre, joined by Bhavisha Buddhadeo, Founder of Rootskills, and Sushil Rapatwar.
