Global Covid caseload tops 313.3 mn

Amid an ongoing resurgence across the world, the global coronavirus caseload has topped 313.3 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 5.50 million and vaccinations to over 9.49 billion, according to Johns Hopkins University…reports Asian Lite News

In its latest update on Wednesday morning, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the current global caseload and the death toll stood at 313,353,216 and 5,503,857, respectively, while the total number of vaccine doses administered has increased to 9,493,553,089.

The US continues to be the worst-hit country with the world’s highest number of cases and deaths at 62,308,132 and 842,141, according to the CSSE.

The second worst hit country in terms of cases is India (35,875,790 infections and 484,213 deaths), followed by Brazil (22,635,129 infections and 620,507 deaths).

The other countries with over 5 million cases are the UK (14,826,336), France (12,680,780), Russia (10,503,101), Turkey (10,119,884), Germany (7,631,453 ), Italy (7,774,863), Spain (7,592,242), Argentina (6,533,635) Iran (6,210,298) and Colombia (5,380,841), the CSSE figures showed.

The nations with a death toll of over 100,000 are Russia (311,281), Mexico (300,412), Peru (203,067), the UK (151,093), Indonesia (144,144), Italy (139,559), Iran (131,940), Colombia (130,460), France (127,048), Argentina (117,595), Germany (114,522) and Ukraine (103,950).
