Modi talks with Putin, reiterates need for dialogue on Ukraine

The leaders agreed to maintain regular consultations on global and bilateral issues…reports Asian Lite News

In a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s long-standing position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy on the Ukraine issue.

India has been consistent in its stand since Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine on February 26. Prime Minister Modi has called for dialogue and diplomacy during talks with major world leaders over the past few months.

“In the context of the ongoing situation in Ukraine, Prime Minister reiterated India’s long-standing position in favour of dialogue and diplomacy,” the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) after Friday’s phone call.

According to the PMO, the two leaders also reviewed the implementation of the decisions taken during President Putin’s visit to India in December 2021. “In particular, they exchanged ideas on how bilateral trade in agricultural goods, fertilizers and pharma products could be encouraged further,” the PMO said.

The leaders agreed to maintain regular consultations on global and bilateral issues.
