The Director General of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Major General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, said on Monday that an army officer of Lieutenant General rank along with several others have been dismissed from service for failing to protect the military installations on May 9, a media report said.

The ISPR DG said that disciplinary action has been taken against 15 officers, including three Major Generals and seven Brigadiers, Geo News reported.

He said three officers, including a Lieutenant General, have been dismissed from service, Geo News reported.

He added that the granddaughter of a retired four-star General and the son-in-law of a retired four-star General have been arrested in connection with the probe into the May 9 riots triggered by the arrest of PTI chief Imran Khan.

Moreover, the wife of a retired three-star General and the wife and son-in-law of a retired two-star General are undergoing accountability process, he added, Geo News reported.

Chaudhry said, “The May 9 incidents have proved that what the enemy of Pakistan couldn’t do was done by these miscreants.”

The ISPR DG added that the May 9 incidents are “highly condemnable, a black chapter in Pakistan’s history and a big conspiracy against the country”, Geo News reported.

Speaking about the protests that broke out following Imran Khan’s arrest, Chaudhry said that evidences related to the May 9 incidents have been collected and investigation into the violence is underway.
